CROSS

I am a Chartered Engineer (Fire), Chartered Scientist, a practicing Safety and Risk Engineer, and a Registered Fire Risk Assessor- with a passion for helping organisations understand and manage physical and liability risks within the buildings they design, own, occupy, insure or regulate.

I am the founder and Director of Pyrology Limited, an independent safety, fire and risk engineering practice, providing a wide range of high integrity, cost effective services to both established buildings and new build projects.

Amongst numerous qualifications, I hold an Engineering Doctorate where I investigated resilient fire engineering building design, have published numerous journal and conference papers, and authored guidance documents for the profession.

I am a Visiting Professor at the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering at Loughborough University, helping to inject fire safety know how into architecture and built-environment student curricula. Also, I chair the British Standards Technical Committee FSH/24, developing and codifying fire safety engineering practices, and represent the UK on European standards committees. As a Trustee Director of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), I help to promote the profession and registration of professional engineers with the Engineering Council. Additionally,

I am one of the Designated People at CROSS, managing the confidential safety reports that CROSS-UK receives. My time is mostly spent conducting fire engineering projects, risk engineering surveys and fire risk assessments for a wide variety of clients, as well as helping to develop the fire engineering profession through the IFE, academic teaching and BSI standards development work.
